John Dillinger
In the fall of 1933, John Dillinger and 7 other members of his gang stayed at Phantom Lake Camp to evade authorities that were looking for them. They stayed for several weeks, and rented a couple of cabins from Charlie Splittgarber. They were reported to be very nice and generous folks, but did some odd things as you can read below.
I have heard these stories from my family all my life, but was never aware of any documentation about it until recently.
This is the documentation I have found so far that backs up this claim. I continue to look for further information on this.

(NOTE - In 1931, Dillinger was incarcerated at
Indiana State Prison - it was actually 1933)
